Adaptive Recreation
The Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Department staff is dedicated to meeting the recreation needs of all residents of the Twinsburg School District.  Please let us know if you, or any member of your family, have special needs and would like to be included in any existing program.  We will be happy to make the necessary accommodations.  We also offer programs specifically designed for those with special needs and their families in cooperation with the school district’s Parent Mentor Program.  Although we will provide special needs programming information for you here, any direct communication to families is done confidentially by the School District itself.  Please watch for any mailings from the school district about specific programs with their dates and times.  Registration for these programs needs to be completed in person on a registration form at the Twinsburg Fitness Center or the Activities Center.  You will also be asked to fill out a Special Needs Profile form for your child, so that our staff can be sure to meet your child’s individual needs, and ensure a positive and fun leisure experience.  You’ll notice that we offer programs for your whole family too.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet and play with other siblings and parents who share your interests!

Did You Know?

A family “changing room” is available for you and your special needs child at the Fitness Center year round, as well as at the outdoor pool in the summer.  Many special needs children can be “included” with accommodations in the regular Fitness Center classes and the Activities Center’s Youth Summer Camp.  Just let us know what you’re interested in!  A handicapped swing is available at Glenn Chamberlin Park behind the Activities Center.

Abrakadoodle Art Class

Abrakadoodle art and art education provides the opportunity for children and young adults with special needs to increase self esteem, social skills and language while having a blast!  We provide an educationally rich, imaginative art education program that focuses on Process Art - Art that places emphasis upon the learning taking place rather than the outcome or finished product.  Students learn there is no right or wrong way to create art but that what they learn in the process is most important.  This session our student will engage in activities using watercolors and learn about “paint resist” methods.  Each week our students will create their own framed masterpieces.  A $10 material fee is due on the first day of class.  This class is for Elementary School children through teens with adult participation required.
