INTRODUCTION
My name is Bill Furey and I would like to thank the residents for giving me the opportunity to serve Twinsburg on City Council. As an at Large representative, I have a chance to work with the other five Ward Councilmen on issues affecting the city and in sharing ideas to improve our community.
I currently serve on the finance and safety committees of Council. The finance committee has worked with the administration, and in particularly Joanne Terry our finance director, to make sure we spend the Cities money wisely. We have also recently received the final version of the State performance audits for several city departments. This information will used by Council and the Mayors office to implement cost savings where appropriate and add resources where deemed necessary. By controlling city spending, we can reduce the need for any additional property tax increases in the near future.
The Safety Committee has been working with several City departments (Fire, Planning, Engineering and the Mayors office) to complete the final plans for our new Fire station. The new station will be located on the north side of Glenwood across from the Heinens grocery store. This location will provide northern Twinsburg, in particular Meadowood and Ethan’s Green, with significantly improved emergency response times. We have worked as a group to reduce the construction costs of the new station by over a million dollars and I anticipate the construction to begin in early spring of 2006.
I will continue to work with Council and the Mayor on ways to save money for our residents. Recently many of you participated in the natural gas program with Vectren which will save the residents of the City over two million dollars in heating costs this winter. I consider it a privilege to serve on Council and please feel free to contact me with any questions in the future.
