GLENWOOD DRIVE RESURFACING The Glenwood Drive Resurfacing project is funded by a grant through Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study (AMATS) using Federal money funneled through the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). This project is 80% Federal Funding with a 20% Local match. The project schedule is to resurface Glenwood Dr between Liberty Road and Darrow Road (SR 91) in the month of June when construction activity on Post Road is light, beginning June 1 as follows: Week 1: 6/1- 6/4 Mobilization and Milling operations (moving operation – flaggers) Week 2: 6/7-6/11 Asphalt repairs & intermediate asphalt course applied (moving operation-flaggers) Weeks 3-4: 6/11-6/23 Concrete Repairs (Work zones – flaggers) Weeks 4-5: 6/24-6/29 Surface Asphalt applied and pavement markings (moving operation–flaggers) The section between Darrow Rd and Ravenna Rd is anticipated to start around the beginning of July and continue through July or early August. Asphalt milling is occurring July 12-13, with the intermediate course paving scheduled for Monday, July 19 weather permitting. The remainder of the week casting adjustments are scheduled, followed by 3 days for surface course paving work (estimated to begin July 28), followed by 4 days of work for pavement markings and loop detector installations. The final clean up and demobilization of the entire project should be completed in the first few weeks of August. |

POST ROAD - PHASE 2 ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS 2010 July 19 - November 2010 The City will also be receiving a loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) for the reconstruction of Post Road providing wider lanes, curb, sidewalk, and storm sewers. The OPWC loan will go into effect July 1, 2010 and will be a separate construction contract. As a result, during the month of June, the presence of construction personnel will be minimal. However, the westbound lane will remain closed to traffic until the widening is complete. It is anticipated in mid-September that a 3-week road closure in this section will occur. Residents that live on Post Road will still have limited access to their homes coordinating with the contractor. During this closure, the road will be excavated, sub base stabilized, curbs installed and base asphalt placed. Traffic will then open up to Eastbound traffic ONLY again for the remainder of the construction. This will allow the contractor to proceed with drive apron, sidewalk, and restoration activities. Finally, the entire road from Darrow Road (SR91) to Liberty Road will be resurfaced. There will be some excavation occurring on July 8/9 within the proximity of the Darrow Road Intersection. This information will be used to finalize the ordering of storm sewer structures. The Ohio Public Works Commission has sent out the paperwork for the financing of this project and we anticipate all required paperwork will be complete by July 16. By July 21 the contractor should be receiving materials at the site and will begin installing storm sewers. Thank you for your patience as we move into this next phase of construction. |

LAUREL CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT - Scheduled to begin Mid Summer 2010 The Cuyahoga County Board of Health was awarded ARRA funding administered through the Ohio EPA for this project. (American Recovery & Reinvestment Act 2009). Working with the Tinkers Creek Watershed Group and a Design/Build Team, the project will stabilize and restore approximately 2,000-2,500 linear feet of this tributary of Tinkers Creek through the design and reconstruction of the stream channel to provide features such as meanders, step pools, riffle pool complexes, and wetland floodplains to reduce storm water flows, and improve overall water quality. Channel design work to include grading, vertical stability, wetland floodplain form, channel form and habitat creation. The goal of this restoration project is to provide a stable stream dimension pattern, allow for free fish passage, and profile utilizing a natural channel design approach. The Consultant should also create an educational component to this project to collaborate with the Twinsburg High School and their students during this project with activities to include but not limited to field visits during the construction process, updates to classes, and provide overall data to the students and teachers on why, what, and how the process is commencing, as well as, the benefit to the Tinkers Creek Watershed. This process will be performed by the design/build team, the Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners, and the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The City's Engineering Department will be providing inspection services during the implementation phase of the project. |

SOLAR PANEL PROJECT - Outdoor Swimming Pool This project will involve the installation of solar thermal panels to heat the outdoor pool, thereby reducing the natural gas consumption usage for this purpose. Approximately 900 sq ft of panels will be mounted on the existing locker room building's SW facing roof, and an additional 1,800 sq ft of panels will be mounted on a new shade structure to be erected next to the locker room building. The City has received grant funding for this project thru the Ohio Department of Development for participating in the Federal/EPA advanced energy fund for renewable energy projects. The City will be assisting the Ohio Energy Office (OFO) in developing a case study for such projects by agreeing to be placed on the Ohio Solar Tour program for two years, which allows guided tours of the system and presenting information on renewable energy systems. |

MICRO-TURBINE PROJECT – Wastewater Treatment Plant The City of Twinsburg applied for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to assist in financing this project, and received $850,000. The City of Twinsburg owns and operates a wastewater treatment (WWTP) plant at 10231 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg, Ohio. The WWTP covers 7 acres and processes over 3 million gallons per day (gpd) of wastewater. Methane gas is a by-product of the wastewater treatment process. Currently, a portion of this methane gas is used to produce energy to operate sludge heaters; however, excess gas is flared on-site at methane burners. Twinsburg proposes to install a single Capstone Model No. CR65-ICHP 65 kW micro-turbine on site. The micro-turbine would convert the excess methane gas into a source of power for the plant, rather than simply burning it off into the atmosphere. Twinsburg anticipates saving $46,121 annually through reduced energy bills to operate the WWTP by installing the micro-turbine. A contract with Johnson Controls has been signed and approved by the Ohio EPA for this project. |

CITY WIDE TREE PLANTING PROGRAM The tree planting program requires a two-year guarantee on trees planted under contract with the City. Therefore, a list of trees to be replaced under this requirement is on file in the Engineer's Office, and the contractors have been notified of existing deficiencies. A tree planting and replacement list is currently being maintained by the Engineering Department; however, a financial-based decision has been made to suspend the City-Wide Tree Planting program at this time. |
