Fire and Fall Prevention for Senior Citizens Twinsburg Fire Department is pleased to announce the inception of a new program on Fire and Fall Prevention for the Senior Citizens of our community. This program is being funded by a Federal Grant. This program, as all programs offered by the Twinsburg Fire Department, will be provided free of charge. Presented materials will educate the attendees of the possible trip and fall hazards found in their homes along with some fire safety tips. Each year, one out of every three people over the age of 65 falls. These falls are a serious public health problem because they can limit these valuable members of our community's ability to lead an active, independent life. The risk of falling increases with age. Older adults who fall once are two to three times as likely to fall again within a year. 95% of hip fractures are caused by falls. Our goal is to decrease the overall incidence of falls in adults over the age of 65 by providing the proper education. |
