William E. Hon was elected to Twinsburg City Council in 1989. He began his 4th consecutive term in 2005. He currently represents Ward 5, but has also been the Councilman for Ward 4 and Glenwood Acres before boundaries were redrawn.
Bill became interested in city government and was appointed to the Twinsburg City Planning Commission in 1987. He served on that commission, gaining valuable experience, before being elected to Council.
Bill has an extensive background in "Good Business Practices", working in engineering, purchasing, follow-up procedures and sales. He now is a sales representative and engineer for his own company. His education, plus his experience in business, have been assets in his achievements on Council.
Bill has the following objectives for the City of Twinsburg:
• Implement ways to have "sensible growth in the city", limiting residential growth, promoting industrial growth, and acceptable commercial growth;
• Keep our tax base low;
• Monitor spending on capital improvements to maintain cash reserves;
• Continue our excellent city services to all residents;
• Improve communication with the residents using an easy-to-read, informative newsletter;
• Improve communication between Department Directors and City Council;
• Keep residents' safety as one of our highest priorities.
While on Council, Bill Hon created the Growth Management Steering Committee in 1998, which resulted in a 6 month moratorium on new home building in the city. The City Planning Commission used this time to update the zoning codes.
Bill also led the way when Meijer's wished to build a mega-store near Ethan's Green and Meadowood. The action of Bill Hon and the residents in that area caused Meijer's to change their minds.
Listening to the people is one of Bill's strengths. He believes that to represent the people fairly and responsibly, he needs to talk with them, and ask them how they feel about issues.
During his 14 years on Council, Bill has been the Council Representative to all City Boards, Commissions and Committees.
