Mayor Ted Yates Appoints Thomas D. Mason as Chief of the Twinsburg Police Department
After holding internal interviews and discussions with Council and City leadership, City of Twinsburg Mayor Ted Yates is excited to announce that Thomas D. Mason has accepted the position of Chief of the Twinsburg Police Department. Mason currently serves as a Lieutenant in the Twinsburg Police Department and will begin his new role as Chief on September 3, 2021 filling the vacancy created by Chief Christopher Noga’s retirement. A formal swearing in will take place on September 14th at that evening’s Council meeting.

Tom began his career with the Twinsburg Police Department in October, 1994. A graduate of Charles F. Brush High School, Tom attended Kent State University, and Cuyahoga and Lakeland Community Colleges. Most recently, he obtained a Leadership Certificate from PEALS (Police Executive and Administrative Leadership School) in 2018 and graduated from CLEE XXV, a comprehensive program presented by the Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, as a Certified Law Enforcement Executive in 2020.
Throughout his nearly 27 years of service, he has held the roles of Patrol Officer, Detective, Patrol Sergeant, and Lieutenant. During his career, Tom established the department’s K-9 program and was the City’s first K-9 Officer. He has also served in a developmental role as a Field Training Officer and supervising the Field Training Officer Program, as well as serving as an instructor in the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
As a 20 year resident of the City of Twinsburg Tom and his wife Tracy have raised their twin children, Jessica and Tyler where they attend Twinsburg High School. The Mason family is actively involved in the community through events, school sports and various activities. “I look forward to continuing the groundwork that Chief Noga has laid for the department and the upcoming opportunities for growth. Change is always challenging, but needed to meet the demands of the community, especially in recent times.
