Residents,
Last fall, NOPEC voluntarily shifted all its electric customers to First Energy so they could take advantage of the utility's lower rate. NOPEC buys electricity in bulk at auction and then passes the benefits on to their customers. The timing of when power is purchased at auction is critical. They are now able to offer a more competitive rate, so through the city's aggregation agreement, customers who have not previously opted-out will automatically be transferred to NOPEC's new competitive rate.
Some residents may have received a letter from NOPEC announcing this transfer to NextEra, the NOPEC electric supplier. The standard 7-month (June 2023-December 2023) fixed rate for NOPEC customers is 6.45 cents/kwh compared to AEP's 7-month fixed rate of 6.69 cents/kWh.
Below is some background information that may be helpful:
1) Twinsburg voters approved a citywide electric aggregation plan in 2020.
2) NOPEC, a not-for-profit corporation that has been approved as the city's aggregator.
3) NOPEC is a governmental energy aggregator with a Board of Directors made up of mayors, county commissioners and township trustees representing over 245 municipalities from around the state.
4) The requirement to "opt-out" of participation in the city selected aggregator is state law per Ohio Revised Code and is not a city or NOPEC requirement.
Besides the Standard 7-month (June 2023-December 2023) fixed rate above, NOPEC offers longer term plans:
12-month (June 2023-June 2024) fixed rate, 6.87 cents/kWh
24-month (June 2023-June 2025) fixed rate, 6.85 cents/kWh
If you wish to participate in one of these NOPEC alternative plans, or, opt out all together please call NOPEC at 855-667-3201. There is no cost to opt out of any of these plans at any time.
I hope that this information was helpful.
